PEPSI CELEBRATES THE JOY OF RED, WHITE AND BLUE WITH LIMITED-EDITION FOURTH OF JULY CANS

PURCHASE, NY (June 25, 2002) – They’re red, white and blue and they’re a must for any Fourth of July party. Beginning this week in stores across the country, Pepsi will introduce "celebration cans" – specially designed cans featuring Pepsi’s traditional red, white and blue colors in patriotic patterns. Each week, one of four new designs will be released.

Consumers who purchase specially marked 12- or 24-packs of the limited-edition cans will receive a $1 coupon toward their next Pepsi purchase. Two and three-liter Pepsi bottles and fountain cups also will feature one of the designs.

Keeping in the holiday spirit, Jeff Gordon will race a patriotic red, white and blue Pepsi paint-out car in the Pepsi 400 on July 9 in Daytona. At the race, Pepsi will give out CDs with a modern rendition of "America the Beautiful," which will hit the radio airwaves this summer.

"This idea came from our consumers, said Dave Burwick, chief marketing officer of Pepsi-Cola North America. "They told us that creating patriotic red, white and blue cans would be a natural way to celebrate the Fourth of July."
